We always NEED FOSTER HOMES!!!!!

SCNC Rescue provided care for 14 Newfoundlands in need, in 2007. 10 Females and 4 males. Congratulations to these Newfies who are now in wonderful forever homes.

We are currently getting calls daily about Newfs in need, so if you can help, please let us know!

Donations are ALWAYS gratefully accepted. We have had some major medical bills over the last year as three of our Rescues needed Heart Worm treatment, 6 needed spay/neutered, and 3 needed extra cardiac exams/tests. Fortunately all of them have responded to the love of our foster homes, and the medical attention we have been able to provide, including assistance from the NCA Charitable Trust. Thank You to those who have donated, and we appreciate everyone's help as funds are few and there are more dogs needing help.

SCNC Newf Rescue

SCNC currently has 6 Newfoundlands in Foster Care with more calls coming in. We have placed 14 Newfoundlands & 1 mix to date in 2008. If you are interested in adopting or fostering, please fill out an application and note what or which dog you are interested in. Please keep checking back to our site as we will be listing new arrivals as soon as they are ready for a new home. All who were heart worm positive are through their treatments and continue to show no long long lasting effects. They only need to continue on normal heartworm meds to be sure all stages of this preventable worm are killed off in their system.

If you are willing to give a home to a senior Newf please let us know. The old ones are very special and occasionally we get calls about dogs over the age of 8 in need of a home. Typically there is no adoption fee for these guys, and they deserve special homes to live out their final years. The love of a veteran Newf is something that can never be equaled.

Please check back frequently!

Thank You for your patience during the week of April 26 - May 4, 2008

It was a great National, allowing us to network with other Regional Newfoundland Rescues. This will help many more Newfoundlands in need.

Newfie # 5 - 2008

She loves life! She is an extremely happy Newf and a very special girl. She is overcoming a immune problem that may need long term meds. After a recent flare up the hair on her nose and around her eyes fell out and came back in white. We think it adds character and makes her even more beautiful! Currently we are working to see if her meds can be reduced and our long term goal is to try and eventually get her totally off of them. She doesn't act like anything is wrong at all. She LOVES the snow, gets along well with other dogs and cats, but she adores kids. She enjoys attention and being brushed.

Update 3/23/08 - the pigment on her nose is going back to black. She has had a rabies vaccine that we are watching closely to see if it causes a reaction. If not then we are clear to reduce her meds in the upcoming weeks. She continues to love going on walks, visiting the groomer and chasing those little rodents known as squirrels!

Update 4/23/08 - There has been no reaction to the Rabies vaccine, and we have received the 'all clear' to start reducing her meds. This is a great sign that she is definitely on the road to recovery.

Surprise, this beautiful boy is actually a GREY & WHITE Newfoundland. Even though the picture may look like he is a black and white, he is not. He came in on 3/22/08 after being abused by a 8-10 year old child, and is affraid of tennis rackets, so we are checking all of this out. He is also now on a diet as he needs to loose a few pounds. He is 1 1/2 - 2 years old, neutered, in great health, and very loving with adults.

Update 4/18/08: This boy is very smart, and needs a home with absolutely no children. He is great with adults and other dogs. Someone with very good training experience could work with him on this issue, but we will not adopt him to any home with young kids.

Update 5/8/08: Please know we are looking for a home where children will not be visiting regularly, and he will not be exposed to children on a regular basis. We believe that would add stress that is not needed. We are working to figure out the extent of his behavior and if there are specific situations that might cause problems.

Newfie # 12 - 2008 (Hope: aka Winnie)

'Hope' is an extremely sweet 5 year old girl who is very overweight. She gets along well with other dogs, loves children, and has learned to leave the indoor kitty alone. A very gentle girl who needs a forever home who will continue to help her gradually slim down.

Update 4/23/08: Her Thyroid panel came back as very low normal, so she has been started on thyroxine. This should help her feel better pretty quick, and she will need to be on it the rest of her life. Its a very inexpensive med. given twice a day. Normally about $10 a month from your Vet, or cheaper if you get it from Walmart on the $4 plan.

Update 5/8/08: Housebreaking is a little rocky, as she wants to be inside, so she tricks everyone into letting her back in the house before she goes potty. She's a smart very loving girl who is learning that she is always going to be allowed indoors.

Update 5/13/08: FANTASTIC news!!! In three weeks, 'Hope' has lost 14 pounds since starting on the thyroxine. She's more energetic, and loves to go for walks. She still needs to lose at least another 10-15 pounds but she's over half way there!

Just helping with the recycling! This baby girl is only 8 months old and very smart. She's naturally curious about things and has energy to burn. She's going through that 'leggy' stage and is a very sweet girl. Already up to date on all vaccinations, spayed, and ready for her forever home. Would do well with someone who wants to do Obedience, as she's a very willing participant.

This sweet 8 month old baby girl's name is 'Lovie', and she really is. Although the second photo was taken after trying to find those darn chipmunks. She is up to date on her vaccines, spayed, and ready to find her forever home. She's adorable, gets along well with other dogs, and loves children of all ages.
